We get ooodles of mail every day from people with suggestions, problems, ideas
- and from those who just like the Buzzed service. We also get a lot of questions, So,
here, in no particular order, are a few of them we have answered recently.
HOW DO I GET THE Buzzed SIMULATOR ON MY SITE ??
Weve made a complete section on this, click
HERE for complete instructions
I can't get to my WAPsite on my phone.
If you are getting the message "No reaction from Gateway", then this may be
your ISP's gateway going wrong OR (and this is very possible) your ISP uses an
"allow" list for URL's. That is, unless you specifically ask them to include
WAPsites on the "www.buzzed.co.uk" domain, they may not just allow you to go there.
Often when this happens, your request is logged and then your ISP will visit the site to
make sure that the WAP content is ok before the domain is allowed.
Another reason is that you need to tell your service provider that you want to access
sites 'outside' of their dialup portal. It used to be with Orange for instance, you could
ONLY access sites on thier portal. To gain access to the rest of the net, you needed to
dial 156 from your handset and ask for 'OtherSites Access'. Whilst Orange no longer
operate this policy, other providers may.
I love my WAPsite, just one problem. Is there any way I can use the site on my
existing www.myname.com domain?
SOME users can achieve this by including a small config file in their existing Website.
Full instructions are HERE, but PLEASE make sure you read ALL
of the warnings first.
My site works on my phone, but not on the wizzybang web based emulator.
Some WAP emulators have problems with the link structure on Buzzed (We don't know of
any phones that don't understand it though..). That is why we built the Buzzed simulator
- plus, it's faster (and much better looking) than most of the others :) - Also, some web
based emulators send spurious characters in the URL (real phones don't do this.). Where
possible we filter these out, but if the emulator is upgraded or changed, these filters
must be updated to reflect the changes.
I am having problem using the underscore character in WAP addresses - it won't
accept the underscore.
Yep, some phones do have problems with underscores. Our advice is, try not to use them!
I have cut and pasted the info to bring up the simulator on my site, but when
you click on the link all that pops up is an empty window with nothing in. I followed all
the steps correctly and changed the XXXX to my site.
You will need to be on-line for the emulator to work, as it needs to call the page from
the Buzzed server.
Your way of creating/editing WAP is simply great! But I'd really like to learn
what are WML or HTML codes/scripts that makes it tick. Do you have a reference site for
this? I hope its as easy to understand. Cheers!
Unfortunately, we don't have as much about WAP and WML up on the site yet, although we
have been busily collecting information for an advanced section for a while. We will
however be announcing an on-line tutorial shortly.
Would HTML tags make my WAP site look better on the emulator? You know, add
colour/graphics?
The site strips most HTML content from your pages. Any that are let through would
probably mess up the emulator display and cause any real WAP visitors to get an error.
How does a sender's message reach my phone?
I assume you are referring to the mail gateway. If this is so, then messages sent via
your WAPsite are actually forwarded on to your signup e-mail address, not your phone. This
enables people without email on their phones to still get a message to you.
What format do the graphics require (eg. bitmap jpg etc). and is there a
special package that you have to use? / How can I create my own WBMP to place on the first
page of my WAPsite ?
Graphics on a mobile phone need to be in WBMP (Wireless Bitmap) format. (a very few
devices will show BMP's or GIF's as well). The easiest way to convert them is to download
the 'unwired' plugin for PhotoShop or Paint Shop Pro, available from Here. Create your graphic no larger
than 84 * 40 by 2 colours - and save it as a WBMP. At the moment, you can't upload to
Buzzed (it will come shortly) - so you will need to put the graphic on another web
server. Log in to Buzzed to edit your page and enter the address
(yourserver.com/graphic.wbmp) in the graphic box.
My site seems to have disappeared?
Sites that are created then not updated within 24 hours automatically expire. Once you
login and updated your site, it will remain active, providing you update your site at
least once every 90 days. Your site may not istantly dissapear after this time, but if
another user requests the use of your siteID and you have not updated within 90 days, they
will be given it.
I'm having difficulty adding a graphic to my WAP site. It doesn't show up on
the server.
Unfortunately, your image is too big for your phone. If the image is too big, it most
likey just wont show. We suggest a maximum image size of 88*44.
Hi, I'm having a problem with links to WAP sites, the WAP addresses are ok but
the sites just don't open!
Remove the HTTP:// part from the front of the URL (it's added automatically) and the
links should work
How can I ftp .wml and .wbmp directly into the space?
No. The whole of the Buzzed site is built around a 'soft server'. Sites on Buzzed are
not stored in WML format, instead, they are 'tokenised'. This allows the soft server to
output your site to many different mobile devices.
This might sound stupid but how do you look at the site what is the dial up
phone number.
Ok, you will need a WAP enabled phone. The phone will come configured with the
dialup number (it's just like accessing the internet from your PC really) - Simply enter
your site URL (www.buzzed.co.uk/wap/youname) as a bookmark or in the 'open WAPsite' link from
your providers homepage. This will cause the phone microbrowser to load and display your
page. - Hope that helps..
